It is law within the UK that every item of precious metal sold such as Platinum, Gold, Silver is stamped labelling the item with the type of metal it is. Platinum pieces which weigh less than 0.5 grams, 18ct Gold and Palladium pieces weighing less than 1.0 gram and Silver pieces weighing less than 7.78 grams are except from hallmark.
At Diamonds Factory all our products are hallmarked as per UK hallmarking law from London Assay Office (The GoldSmith Company)
The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office is the oldest assay office in the United Kingdom. It has provided hallmarking services since The Goldsmiths' Company was founded in the 1300s. The company received its royal charter in 1327 and ranks 5th in order of precedence of the 12 Great Livery Companies of the City of London.
Hallmarking dates back to the 1300s when Edward I of England passed a law requiring any item made of silver, which was offered for sale, to be at least of equal quality as that of the coin of the realm (silver currency). The wardens of The Goldsmiths' Company were tasked with visiting workshops in the City of London to assay (test) silver articles. If these articles were found to be below standard they were originally destroyed and the metal forfeited to the King. If they passed, each article received the King's mark of authentication - the mark of a leopard's head. By 1478, there were several hundred workshops and merchants manufacturing silver articles in the City of London. It was not possible for the wardens to visit them all so the merchants were ordered to bring their items to Goldsmiths' Hall for testing and marking and a permanent Assay Office was established in the building. This is the origin of the term hallmark - struck with the King's mark at Goldsmiths' Hall.
In 1544 the Goldsmith's Company adopted the King's mark as their town mark and the mark of the leopard's head is now internationally recognised as the mark of this assay office.
The Goldsmiths's Company Assay Office is still based at Goldsmiths's Hall and remains the oldest company in Britain to be continually trading from the same site. However, it also has two satellite offices; at Greville Street in Hatton Garden in the heart of the London jewellery quarter and within a high security complex near London's Heathrow airport. It now has a new off-site facility within the Dalston-based jewellery manufacturer, Allied Gold. This is the first time in the Assay Office's 700 year history that it has opened permanent hallmarking services on a customer's premises.
In addition to hallmarking, the office has now expanded its range of services to support the jewellery trade and enforcement authorities. It offers a variety of specialist analytical services including nickel, lead & cadmium testing, antique silver dating, non-destructive compositional analysis, plating thickness measurement and a melt and assay service for scrap precious metal carried out in their fully independent on-site laboratory. Other services offered are a jewellery valuation service, laser marking, trading standards assistance, high quality photography and a comprehensive range of training and educational seminars, lectures and specialist events.

Why Layering Necklaces Is the Ultimate Accessory Trend
Necklace layering captivates. This sophisticated styling approach transforms simple pieces into stunning statements of personal style. A thoughtfully arranged stack adds depth and intrigue to any ensemble, elevating your look from casual brunches to elegant soirées. The true magic lies in its versatility. Mix delicate chains with statement pendants, blend precious metals with diamonds, or combine textures to create a signature look that's unmistakably yours. Whether you favour classic diamond elegance or contemporary mixed-metal designs, the possibilities for creative expression are endless.
Key Rules For Layering Necklaces
Achieving the perfect layered look requires more than just stacking random chains. The key is to strike a balance between necklace lengths, textures, and metals. Whether you’re working with diamond necklaces, charms, or statement pieces, these fundamental rules will help you build a cohesive and stylish stack.
Varying Necklace Lengths
One of the most important rules of how to layer a necklace is choosing the right lengths to create depth and dimension. A classic formula includes a short choker (35-40cm), a mid-length necklace (45-50cm), and a long chain (55cm+). This combination allows each piece to shine without competing for attention.
For an effortlessly chic effect, try mixing a simple pendant necklace with a statement chain or layering different styles of diamond necklaces for added sparkle.
Combining Styles And Textures
Layering isn’t just about length—it’s also about texture and contrast. Mixing different styles, such as a delicate cable chain with a chunky curb chain, creates visual interest and depth.
A well-balanced stack pairs diamond necklaces with simple metal chains, or sleek bar pendants with intricate filigree designs. By varying the thickness and structure of your pieces, you can elevate your jewellery game with minimal effort.
Mixing Metals
Gone are the days of sticking to one metal. Layering necklaces with mixed metals is a trend that allows you to blend gold, silver and rose gold for a modern, fashion-forward look.
To achieve a harmonious mix, use a unifying element such as a diamond necklace or a gemstone pendant to tie everything together. The key is balance: if one metal is bold, keep the others subtle. Layering necklaces with mixed metals creates a dynamic, versatile aesthetic that works across different styles and occasions.
How To Layer Necklaces Without Tangling
A major challenge when wearing multiple necklaces is tangling. However, with a few simple tricks, you can enjoy the beauty of layering without the hassle of knots.
Use different chain styles: Combining various textures, such as a flat snake chain with a delicate cable chain, reduces tangling.
Layer with a 5cm difference: Keeping at least a 5cm gap between each necklace helps prevent overlap.
Secure with a layering clasp: This simple tool keeps necklaces in place and prevents twisting.
By following these tips, you can master how to wear more than one necklace without tangling and enjoy effortless layering every day.
Necklace Combinations For Every Occasion
Whether you're dressing for an everyday look or a special celebration, layering necklaces can elevate your style. The key is to match your jewellery to the occasion while maintaining balance and elegance.
Everyday Minimalist Look
For a subtle yet stylish effect, pair a diamond necklace with a fine gold chain. A small pendant adds a hint of sparkle without overpowering your outfit. This combination works well with both casual and office attire, making it a go-to for effortless elegance.
Statement Evening Look
When dressing for a formal event, opt for a dramatic layered effect. A bold diamond necklace, paired with a mid-length pendant and a longer chain, creates a sophisticated, eye-catching ensemble. Statement pieces such as diamond necklaces add an element of glamour, perfect for an evening out.
Bridal And Special Occasions
For weddings and milestone celebrations, layering elegant diamond necklaces with gemstone pendants creates a breathtaking effect. Consider a pearl choker with a diamond pendant for a bridal look, or mix sentimental pieces to add personal meaning to your special occasion jewellery.
