Why choose a rose gold engagement ring?

Rose gold engagement rings stand out for their balanced warmth and versatility, offering subtle contrast that enhances a diamond's appearance without overpowering it.

Natasha Smith, Customer at Diamonds Factory, explains:

"The distinctive blush tone comes from the copper alloy itself, giving rose gold its characteristic colour while also adding strength, making it particularly well suited to everyday wear. Our rose gold engagement rings are crafted using carefully developed alloys designed to maintain colour, durability and comfort over time."

You'll find designs to suit a wide range of preferences, from minimal solitaires to more detailed settings, each created with precision and hand‑finished to ensure a refined finish and lasting quality.

Can I customise a rose gold engagement ring?

Of course! Just like our other rings, every rose gold engagement ring can be tailored to suit personal style, lifestyle and budget. Our expert jewellers craft each piece with close attention to proportion and finish, helping you create a ring that feels considered and wearable.

You might want to consider the following when choosing your ring:

  • The shape of the diamond
Rose gold pairs particularly well with shapes like oval, pear and cushion‑cut diamonds, creating soft contrast and enhancing shape definition.
  • The setting
Whether a classic prong style or modern bezel design, the setting influences both the look of the ring and how it wears day to day.
  • Future wear
Rose gold blends effortlessly with other metal tones, making it a versatile choice for stacking with wedding bands or future jewellery.

FAQs

*individually for Engagement Rings

Rose gold is popular in jewellery and engagement rings because of its warm, romantic colour and durability, thanks to the strength imparted by the copper. The typical composition of rose gold is 75% gold and 25% copper for 18-karat rose gold, though the exact ratio can vary depending on the desired colour and karat weight. The more copper used, the stronger the red or pink tint.

The pinkish hue of a rose-gold engagement ring is less prone to fading and does not tarnish like silver, but it can develop a slight patina or become less shiny over time due to environmental exposure and everyday wear. Regular cleaning and proper care, such as avoiding harsh chemicals and storing it safely, can help rose gold to maintain its lustre and extend its longevity.

Rose gold is not typically considered hypoallergenic. This is due to the presence of copper in the alloy, which can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in people with sensitivities to copper or other metals. The amount of copper in rose gold, particularly in 18-karat rose gold, is relatively high, so those prone to metal allergies might experience discomfort. If someone has sensitive skin or known metal allergies, they may want to opt for higher-karat gold alloys, such as 18K or 22K gold, or look for hypoallergenic metals like platinum or palladium instead.

Rose gold differs from yellow and white gold primarily in its composition, colour, and overall aesthetic. In terms of composition, rose gold is made from pure gold mixed with copper. Yellow gold is usually mixed with pure gold and metals like copper or zinc, while white gold is made of gold combined with nickel, palladium, or silver, and is often plated with rhodium to enhance shine and durability. In colour, rose gold has a pink or reddish hue, yellow gold has a warm gold tone, and white gold has a silvery-white colour. With aesthetics, most couples choose rose gold for its unique and romantic allure. Yellow gold has a more classic and traditional appeal. White-gold engagement rings are popular for couples wanting a modern, sleek look that is similar to platinum.

Rose gold comes from a higher percentage of copper, which is a less expensive metal compared to other metals because of its abundance. Additionally, rose gold doesn't require rhodium plating, as white gold does, which helps keep its long-term maintenance costs lower. These factors reduce the overall cost of a rose-gold engagement ring while still maintaining its luxurious appearance. Learn more about how to pick an engagement ring here.

The best karat for rose-gold jewellery is typically 18k or 14k, depending on your preference for durability and colour.

  • 18k rose gold (75% gold and 25% copper) offers a richer pink hue due to its higher gold content, while still being durable enough for daily wear. It strikes a good balance between colour, purity, and durability, making it a popular choice for fine jewellery.
  • 14k rose gold (58.5% gold and 41.5% copper and other alloys) is more durable because of the higher copper content. It has a slightly stronger red or pink tint and is better suited for people who want a sturdier option for jewellery that will be worn often, such as engagement rings or wedding bands.

In general, 18k is preferred for a more luxurious, rich colour, while 14k is ideal for those seeking extra durability at a lower price.

The durability, beauty, and vintage appeal of rose gold makes it a modern yet elegant choice for engagement rings and wedding bands. Rose-gold engagement rings also complement a wide range of skin tones, and pair well with various gemstones, offering a unique and timeless appearance.
