Ring Size Chart:
A Guide To Ring Sizes

So, you’ve found the perfect diamond ring, but how do you find your ring size? Whether you’re buying an engagement ring for your partner or a wedding ring for yourself, our ring size chart provides the best tips on how to measure ring sizes at home.

How to measure ring size

The most accurate way to measure your finger for a ring is to get professionally measured in-store. However, if this isn't possible, we offer a downloadable ring size chart that enables you to measure your ring sizes at home.

Just follow these easy steps:

  1. 1. Follow the instructions to download and print our ring size chart on A4 paper.
  2. 2. Find the ring you want to measure and place it against the circles on the guide.
  3. 3. Match the dotted circle to the inside of the ring so that it fits perfectly.
  4. 4. You then have your ring size and can order your ring.

Buying an engagement ring to surprise your partner? Here are our top tips on how to measure ring size in secret.

Ask a friend or family member.
Someone close to your partner may already know their ring size or could even try and subtly ask them on your behalf.

Measure an existing ring.
If they already wear a ring on the finger in question, why not secretly measure it? You can either take the ring to a jeweller to be measured or print our ring size chart to measure it yourself.

Measure their ring finger while
they are asleep.

Although slightly trickier, you can measure your partner's finger using a piece of string while they are asleep. Just wrap it around the ring finger and tie a knot. Then using the string, measure it against our ring size chart.

Ring measuring tips and tricks

Here are our top ticks and tricks to
remember when measuring ring size.

Temperature

Hot temperatures expand the skin while cold temperatures shrink the skin. So, it’s a good idea to consider this before measuring.

Weight loss or gain

Any weight changes will impact how loose or tight the ring will fit.

Pregnancy

Just like weight, pregnancy can impact ring size. Bear in mind that fingers will be more swollen on someone pregnant.

Comfort

Consider how easy it is to put on your finger and allow your finger to swell or shrink depending on the temperature.

Time

The best time of day to measure ring size is in the evening as the fingers are bigger in the evening when compared to the morning.

Ring resizing options

Don’t worry if you don’t get it right the first time, we offer a 30-day free resizing
for up to 2 sizes up or down.

Average ring sizes

When buying an engagement ring, some people choose the average ring size and get it resized later.
Here is how the average ring size in Australia differs for both men and women.

Average AUS ring sizes for women

The average ring size for women ranges from size K to N, as shown in the women's ring size guide.

Average AUS ring sizes for men

The average ring size for men ranges from size S to T, as shown in the men's ring size guide.

FAQ's

While a free ring sizer tool or a downloadable ring size chart both work well for ensuring the right size ring, another accurate way is to measure the inside diameter of a ring that fits and is the same width as the rings you are considering; just make sure that you don’t include the band itself. Once you have that measurement, you can let our jewellers know and they will be able to work out the size for you. Another aspect you need to keep in mind is that ring size and finger size are different. This is because the size of the ring you will need depends on the width of the ring, which is why jewellers work in ring sizes over finger sizes.

When resizing we recommend only going up or down 2 sizes to minimise the risk of damage. If you go any further than 2 sizes up or down, the risk of damaging the ring or affecting the diamond/gemstone massively increases.

There are many factors that affect the resizing of your ring, and depending on the design there may be instances where resizing may not be possible. If your ring is set on a full eternity band, it is unlikely that it can be resized as there is no bare metal for the jeweller to work with. If your ring is set on a plain band, providing there is enough material to work with, resizing is a fairly easy process. Here at Diamonds Factory, we also offer complimentary 30-day free resizing.

If your ring is unable to be resized, don’t panic. There are plenty of other options to consider. The first option is to have it remade, however, this may not necessarily be in your budget and luckily there are much more affordable options to consider. One option is to purchase a new ring mount and have your diamond/gemstone added onto this instead, saving you money on buying a new precious stone. An even cheaper option is to add a small sizing bar or adjuster at the bottom of your ring.

Upon receiving your ring, we aim to get resizing done within 10-14 days, although it is important to note that depending on your ring design, this may take longer. Resizing cannot be done in-store, and items need to be sent directly to our warehouse where our skilled craftsmen will resize your ring.

Rings can be resized up to 2-4 times, however, every time you resize a ring you are weakening its structure slightly which is why we recommend trying to get your resizing right on the first round.

Whether you have settled on single designs or a bridal set, the order in which you wear engagement, wedding, and eternity rings traditionally goes:
- wedding ring first as this is close to the heart
- followed by the engagement ring
- and the eternity ring goes last

In our Diamonds Factory ring size chart, AUS and UK sizing is the same (given in letters), while American ring sizing is given in numbers and Europe sizing is in mm. If you are still unsure of how to get the right size for your big day, our team is always happy to help with your ring sizes.
